Isaac and I were driving to lunch yesterday when we saw a new coffee and pie shop! I made us go later in the afternoon and we were not disappointed. This place was the real deal. They get their beans from Handsome Roasters and the coffee was top notch. You can see them baking their delicious sweet and savory pies in the kitchen behind a glass window. We had the lemon cream pie and two soy lattes, but I can't wait to try the Mac and Cheese pot pie or Shepard's Pie next time I want something savory.

Holiday in the Northwest
We spent Christmas and New Year's Eve in the Northwest. These are a few of the pictures I was able to snap between all the fun we were having and food we were eating.

Juicy Juice
The hubby and I are in our final night of a three day juice "feast". I can't believe I did it! If you would have told me before this that I could actually stick to the routine and drink nothing but fresh juice and water for 3 days straight, I am not sure I would have believed you.
Here is the simple run down of how I felt over the last 3 days :
Day 1: Hungry and scared
Day 2: Sick
Day 3: Not sick and hardly hungry and not scared
It is strange how you do stop feeling hungry after the second day. Although I am not having any hunger pains, I am still thinking about food occasionally. We are going to try to break the fast as easily as possible by sticking to the guidelines we were given. The one thing that I have noticed about how I am feeling is that I am not craving alcohol, salt or crappy food. I keep thinking about a really good salad with avocado and tomato and cucumber, grilled salmon and some rice pilaf.....
The juice came from Juice Maids, which is an LA based cold pressed juice delivery service. Check it out!

My mom came to LA this weekend for a visit and I didn't end up taking a lot of photos. We did some shopping, got Thai massages and ate some delicious food. We went to visit my brother in his neighborhood of Highland Park, which I haven't spent much time in. He took us to a really delicious Mexican restaurant called El Arco Iris that I am already craving again. After lunch at El Arco we walked next door to an old shop called Galco's. It is a huge old soda pop shop! They had so many interesting and unique kinds of soda, beer, candy and water! They do online orders and they will ship your soda to you. My mom put together a case and they are shipping it to her now.
After dropping my mom off at the airport, we spent the afternoon in Santa Monica. We were preparing for a juice fast the following week which required us to eat a vegan diet so we had dinner at Real Food Daily. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of my vegan tacos, but I did snap a picture of the delicious chocolate tart. The vegan whip cream was really super yummy and dairy free!
